Commodity Futures Deals - A Quick Description Of Futures Agreements
In comparison to cash contracts, which call for payment against the physical delivery of products immediately or following a specified period, a futures contract is really a special kind of agreement made strictly under the rules of a commodity exchange, which may or might not call for the actual delivery of products and payment in cash on a future date.
As outlined by Emery, a futures contract may be defined as a contract for the future delivery of some commodity without reference to specific lots, made under the policies of some commercial body, in a set form, by which the conditions as to unit of amount, the level of quality and time of delivery are stereotyped. Only the ruling of the total amounts along with the price is left open to the contracting parties.
Such contracts are meant just for future settlement, although the exact date of the settlement is decided by reference to the needs of the seller along with the established rules of the commodity exchange.
Such contracts do not specify the particular grade of a commodity, but impliedly refer to a basic grade known as the contract grade, accepted as the common grade for all futures dealings.
The specifics in respect to the quantity, the time of settlement, the level of quality and so forth are mentioned in the guidelines and regulations, and are common to all such contracts. The contracting parties have to decide upon the price tag at which the contract would be to be settled, sometime within one of the trading months specified by the exchange.
Futures contracts are generated only in the 'ring' of the commodity exchanges, and not outside the exchanges. Only individuals in a commodity exchange may enter into such a deal.
No outside party can become a party to a futures contract. Such contracts can be made only in multiples of a fixed unit of trading. No such contracts can be made in fractions of these units.
If you're a small business owner looking to raise business capital through futures contracts, contact a financial consultant by searching: mergers companies or company go public.
